«Иван Васильевич меняет профессию» – одна из самых известных и успешных советских комедий. Она была снята режиссёром Леонидом Гайдаем в 1973, автором других культовых комедий («Бриллиантовая рука», «Кавказская пленница», «12 стульев»). Царь Иван Грозный попадает из средневековой Москвы в советскую, а на его месте оказывается советский персонаж. Многие реплики фильма стали цитатами. Вот несколько интересных фактов об этом фильме.
“Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Profession” is one of the most famous and successful Soviet comedies. It was filmed by director Leonid Gaidai in 1973, the author of other cult comedies (“The Diamond Arm”, “Kidnapping, Caucasian Style”, “The Twelve Chairs”). Tsar Ivan the Terrible gets from medieval Moscow to Soviet capital, replaced by a man from the Soviet Union. Many lines of the film have become quotes. Here are some interesting facts about this cult movie.
1. «Иван Васильевич» был снят по одноимённой пьесе Михаила Булгакова, написанной в 1936 году. В Театре сатиры даже начались репетиции пьесы, но она была запрещена по решению коммунистической партии. Булгаков так и не увидел её ни на сцене, ни в печати.
2. Изначально роль царя должен был играть актёр Юрий Никулин. Однако он отказался от роли когда узнал, что фильм снят по мотивам запрещённой пьесы. Он считал, что картина никогда не пройдёт цензуру.
1. “Ivan Vasilyevich” is based on the play of the same name by Mikhail Bulgakov, written in 1936. Rehearsals for the play began at the Satire Theater, but it was banned by decision of the Communist Party. Bulgakov never saw it on stage or in print.
2. Initially, the role of the tsar was to be played by actor Yuri Nikulin. However, he refused the role when he learned that the film was based on a banned play. He believed that the film would never pass censorship.
3. Некоторые сцены из фильма цензура действительно попросила убрать. Например, сцену, в которой царь жарит котлеты (её посчитали неуважительной). А также крупный план ручки с обнажённой женщиной.
4. Фильм показывает нам Москву 16 века, а на самом деле виды Кремля снимались в Ростове Великом. Все костюмы были затем подарены музею Ростовского Кремля.
3. The censors actually asked to remove some scenes from the film. For example, the scene in which the tsar fries cutlets (it was considered disrespectful). And also a close-up of a pen with a naked woman.
4. The movie shows us Moscow in the 16th century, but in fact the Kremlin scenes were filmed in Rostov Veliky. All the costumes were then donated to the Rostov Kremlin Museum.
5. Говорят, что скульптор «машины времени», Вячеслав Почечуев, взял за основу… самогонный аппарат. Он работал над этим агрегатом два месяца. А стеклянные элементы машины были выдуты на Клинском стеклодувном заводе.
6. Леонид Гайдай считал, что чёрная кошка приносит… удачу. Поэтому в каждом его фильме можно увидеть чёрного кота, и «Иван Васильевич» – не исключение: в квартире Шурика тоже живёт чёрная кошка.
5. They say that the sculptor of the “time machine”, Vyacheslav Pochechuev, took as a basis… a distillation machine. He worked on this unit for two months. And the glass elements of the machine were blown at the Klin glass-blowing factory.
6. Leonid Gaidai believed that a black cat brings… luck. That’s why you can see a black cat in each of his films, and “Ivan Vasilyevich” is no exception: a black cat also lives in Shurik’s apartment.
7. Один из героев фильма – зубной врач Антон Шпак. В фильме его квартиру ограбили, о чём он постоянно рассказывает. В 2007 году квартиру актёра Владимира Этуша, который сыграл шпака, действительно ограбили. Однако когда воры узнали, чья это квартира, они вернули ему вещи.
8. В сцене царского пира вся еда была настоящей. Режиссёр Леонид Гайдай даже должен был доплатить 200 рублей из своего кармана, так как на роскошные блюда не хватало бюджета. Но после съёмки операторы поняли, что кто-то оставил на столе бутылку «Боржоми», и сцену пришлось снимать снова (ведь в 16 веке её не существовало!).
7. One of the film’s characters is dentist Anton Shpak. In the film, his apartment was robbed, which he constantly talks about. In 2007, the apartment of actor Vladimir Etush, who played Shpak, was really robbed. However, when the thieves found out whose apartment it was, they returned his belongings.
8. In the scene of the royal feast, all the food was real. Director Leonid Gaidai even had to pay an extra 200 rubles out of his own pocket, since there was not enough budget for luxurious dishes. But after filming, the cameramen realized that someone had left a bottle of Borjomi on the table (Georgian sparkling water), and the scene had to be filmed again (after all, it did not exist in the 16th century!).
9. За рубежом название фильма перевели как ««Ivan the Terrible: Back to the Future», «Иван Грозный: Назад в будущее». Конечно же, это отсылка к знаменитому фильму Роберта Земекиса.

9. Abroad, the title of the film was translated as “”Ivan the Terrible: Back to the Future”. Of course, this is a reference to the famous film by Robert Zemeckis.
